Although not exactly a tea freak, I am a big fan of teas of all kinds. The regular, dust-like black teabags which encourage you to pile on the sugar and milk just to make it drinkable aren’t really up my street, and at the moment I have in my cupboard:
- Green tea with lemon
- White tea with vanilla
- Icelandic Moss tea (better than it sounds)
- Chai tea
This is a red tea, which means it uses redbush tea (rooibos) as its base. The base is then infused with some incredibly festive flavours: orange, cinnamon, and cloves. It’s naturally caffeine free, which means it’s suitable for pregnant women.
I have had teapigs tea before, and loved the different green and white teas they have. This flavour, however, is a versatile treat for Christmas.
The first cup I tried was straight – without milk or anything, and was wonderfully drinkable. They suggest adding milk, so I did so, and it promptly beat the pants off the first cup.
They also suggest adding some brandy to make it even more festive, but I think it would be a perfect and easy to pop a tea temple (as they are called) in a batch of mulled wine or cider. Or how about infusing it into some cream and making a ganache for some spiced chocolate truffles? (Recipe can be found in my gluten-free Christmas book)
