Now, I’m fully aware that Tegel airport will be closed on 17 March 2013, but in the months before then I wanted to issue a warning to any coeliac who might think to themselves “I’ll just grab something to eat at the airport”, or in my case, “Ooh, I bet I can pick up a jar of those amazing pickled herrings!”.
On going through security you immediately come face to face with… the gate. Now I would have noticed more about the airport on my outward trip had I not been meeting some people in baggage collection to share my taxi journey with. Or perhaps I could blame my slight hangover. But seriously, there is a duty free shop selling booze, cigarettes and gift chocolates, and a small bar, which only sold a few measly sandwiches, bagels, croissants, muffins and some Walkers crisps.
I was starving. I was so hungry I was getting dizzy and faint. I had the Walkers crisps – which carry a MAY CONTAIN warning. I am a bad coeliac. What would you have done?
