On Sunday, my boyfriend, brother and I went in search of a nice pub lunch in our local area. After some wandering we came across the Raynes Park Tavern. As usual, I checked the menu, and resigned to probably having to eat a baked potato, I went up to the bar to ask whether they had any allergy information for the menu. I told the server that I would probably get a baked potato, but if there was anything else that is gluten-free on the menu, I would like to know.
She went away, and on returning informed me that there was absolutely nothing on the menu that was gluten-free. Including the baked potatoes. I asked her how on earth they managed to get gluten in a potato, but she just shook her head and said I could have a packet of crisps instead. It was clear that no one was willing to improvise or offer anything I could eat. I gave her a disgusted look (I mean, who offers someone a packet of crisps for lunch?) and the three of us took our money somewhere else.
Sorry to all you gluten-free peeps, Raynes Park Tavern is a no-no!
(And can anyone give me any idea as to how they get gluten in a baked potato??)
